Would you turn overwhelmingly green with envy or jealousy if your swanky hedge fund manager of a neighbour and his fashion designer wife bought and displayed US$2.3m worth of ostentatious bling within your line of vision?
That should teach you to think thrice before ploughing 1000% premium for that prized sea view you crave.
In 2005, Jeff Koons‘ green diamond sculpture was sold for US$2.3m (a blue version was sold for US$11m) and since its installation in 2007 chez Mr. & Mrs. Richard Perry, has not garnered much support from the Sutton Place South neighbours.
It is one thing to induldge in near-fetish display of fingering through tubes of diamond rings, and another to adorn your US$10m penthouse’s terrace with a 5ft high stainless steel diamond sculpture the size of a buffalo, that apparently emits sunray-induced laser beams that jarr the precious vision of your chichi neighbours.

Juergen Thieme who lives across the street at 2 Sutton Place says: I think it’s as ugly as it comes, But everyone has a right to his kind of beauty. It’s not my kind. People to whom I’ve spoken don’t care too much for it, either.
I guess when it comes to collecting art, the Sutton Place neighbours will not be bothered to keep up with The Perrys.
