Jean Paul Gaultier’s Knockout Fashion Show

FASHION-FRANCE/

I like to joke with my girlfriends during sporadic sex-in-the-city-style meetups, that if I were a guy, I would most probably be a “Modeliser”.

Actors just won’t quite cut it for me. Unless of course, if they did a Tilda Swinton - sashaying down the famous Viktor & Rolf runway or acting out her roles in all its Indie glory.

Fashion shows epitomize entertainment – a confluence of art, theatre, costumes, make-up, drama, and by the most unconventional definition possible, beautiful people.

Radical designer, Jean Paul Gaultier held a boxing-inspired Fall-Winter 2010-2011 Menswear Collection fashion show, complete with a real boxing ring, in Paris today, 21 January. (more…)

Fore! It’s a Fish Ball!

fish ball1

If you’re an avid golfer, you will be all too familiar with:

1. The golf ball’s natural affinity and love for water hazards

Yes, the scary pond in the middle of the fairway that wages psychological warfare on you everytime you hit the ball. The same one that is an excellent source of second hand quality golf balls <hint>.

2. Unofficial guardians of the pond

Also know as the best and most efficient purveyors of second hand golf balls (mostly retired caddies), who miraculously manifest themselves just as you’re done hammering yourself with a 9 Iron, over those top-of-the-line Maxfli A10 balls with which you make regular and involuntary donations to the pond. (Rubber) Band Music

Are you shopping for some recession-proof form of entertainment this holiday season?

Look no further.

You have heard of the trendy line of banal, everyday objects-inspired business innovations that are the talk of the town these days – Back of the Napkin business models, Back of the Envelope calculations, Red Rubber Ball solutions.

Welcome the latest addition to what I call the “Regress to Progress” phenomenon: “The Elastic Band“.

James Reynolds, a recent Graphic Design graduate of Kingston University, took a simple childhood concept and literally stretched it to extremes, producing a mega low-cost, innovative musical instrument:

” Taking an everyday object to its extreme, we chose the ordinary elastic band. When the band is stretched to certain lengths and then strummed, different notes can be made. When played in a particular order, popular songs from various genres of music can be played using only one elastic band. “

Here are two sample songs you can start with: (more…)

Singapore Artist: Eros de la Astro

Bernard K 1

I am not usually enthusiastic about receiving snail mails these days.  Aside from bills, bills and more bills, I have my complimentary bloomberg magazine to look forward at best… and faux property guru junk mail, at worst.

So I was delighted when a package from a local artist who goes by the tagline: Eros de la Astro, finally arrived at my desk. The anticipation was well worth the wait, as the “oohs and ahhs” from my fellow traders would testify. (more…)
